After months of draconian lockdown measures being placed on the UK public, an end to the pandemic is finally insight with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) approving the Pfizer jab as safe to roll out to the public.
Coronavirus vaccinations are now due to start being given from next week.
Professor Jonathan Van-Tam – who has chaired the Government’s vaccine taskforce – admitted the announcement on a vaccine being ready to use left him emotional.
But, he warned Brits that an end to the restrictions which have put a stop to normal life for the past nine months was only possible is people got the vaccine when offered.
He said: “Watching others take it and hoping that this will then protect you isn’t going to work necessarily.
“We don’t know if this vaccine will prevent transmission or any of them, we have to wait for the science to tell us if it will, though we are very hopeful.”
