Diego Maradona dead: The incredible statistics and records of late Argentina legend | Football | Sport

Diego Maradona has died at the age of 60 after a legendary career in football. The Argentine passed away on Wednesday following cardiac arrest. He had suffered with serious health problems, including undergoing brain surgery earlier this month. Express Sport looks back at some of the career statistics and records of the late great Maradona.

Maradona will be remembered as arguably the greatest player of all time.

And it is easy to see why by simply looking at his incredible career statistics.

Maradona scored 34 goals in 91 caps for Argentina between 1977 and 1994.

His finest hour came at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, scoring five goals and providing two assists, leading his country to glory.

He won the FIFA World Cup Golden Ball and FIFA World Cup Silver Shoe award at the tournament.

Maradona started his professional club career at Argentinos Juniors, making his debut aged 15.

He scored 116 goals in 166 appearances for the club between 1976 and 1980, before leaving for Boca Juniors in 1981.

After netting 28 goals in 40 games and winning the Argentina first division with Boca, Maradona moved to Barcelona for a then world-record transfer fee, where he scored 38 times in 58 appearances in two seasons at the Nou Camp.

Maradona won two Serie A titles, the Coppa Italia, UEFA Cup and Italian Super Cup in an illustrious spell at the club.

He had one season at Sevilla between 1992 and 1993 before returning to Argentina to play for Newell’s Old Boys.

His time there was brief and he ended up rejoining Boca, where he ended his club career in 1997.

Maradona’s managerial career started before he finished playing, having brief spells at the now defunct Textil Mandiyu in 1994 and Racing Club in 1995.

It wasn’t until 2008 that Maradona got back into management, taking the Argentina job.

He managed his country for two years, which was followed by spells in charge at Al-Wasl, Fujairah and Dorados de Sinaloa.

Maradona was manager of Gimnasia de La Plata when he passed away.
