The Foreign Secretary was one of just four phone calls made as part of Jake Sullivan’s first round of talks with countries on behalf of the US President.

As well as the UK, the US national security adviser also held separate calls with the representatives of France, Germany, and Japan.

President Biden is yet to make any phone calls to world leaders himself.

It is thought his first phone call will be to Canadian President Justin Trudeau as is tradition for an incoming US President.
