Man Utd boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer picks out only negative from emphatic Leeds win | Football | Sport

Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has spoken out after his side’s 6-2 victory over Leeds on Sunday. The Red Devils moved to third in the Premier League table with a fine performance at Old Trafford, with braces from Scott McTominay and Bruno Fernandes and further goals from Victor Lindelof and Daniel James giving them all three points. And the 47-year-old was delighted with his side after the game.

United took the lead in the second minute through McTominay, who rifled home from the edge of the box after some good work from Fernandes.

The Scotland international then grabbed his second 60 seconds later, with Fernandes then adding a third.

Lindelof got in on the act shortly before half time, with Fernandes and Daniel James then scoring in the second half to ensure Solskjaer’s side pick up all three points.

It was a good day for the Red Devils, who now sit five points behind Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table having played one game less than their Merseyside rivals.

And Solskjaer was delighted after the game, admitting the absence of supporters from the stadium was the only negative.

“That was fantastic from the first minute,” he said.

“Now we are getting fitter and stronger. Our fans needed that one.”

Roy Keane was performing punditry duties for Sky Sports.

And he feels the club must sort out their bad home form if they’re to win the Premier League title.

“Yeah it’s bizarre really. So bad. It’s been a struggle. Obviously away from home fantastic,” he said on Sky Sports.

“Teams are coming to Old Trafford, the fear factor is certainly gone, so teams are being a bit braver. I am still so shocked, surprised, at how poor it’s been and the lack of goals they’ve been scoring.

“They need to put it right and get some confidence in playing back at Old Trafford.”

He then added: “You know if you look at United, if they can get their home form in order, because their away form seems to be absolutely fantastic, then they have to consider themselves challengers to Liverpool.

“Now a month ago or two I didn’t think that. I still have huge doubts about them. Obviously Ole mentioned the other day they should consider themselves contenders against Liverpool and I like to hear that.

“It’s Man Utd after all and the way the table is, the league is panning out is bizarre. The way United have gone with James, Rashford and Martial – pure pace because it’s going to be such an open game.

“But if United can get their home form in order then they should rightly be thinking ‘we can challenge Liverpool’.”
