Man Utd braced for Brandon Williams loan offer after Ole Gunnar Solskjaer blocked transfer | Football | Sport

Manchester United left-back Brandon Williams is reportedly the subject of interest from Southampton again and Ralph Hasenhuttl looks set to test Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s resolve for a second time. The Saints had a loan approach for the youngster rebuffed earlier this summer after Solskjaer blocked the deal due to the uncertainty surrounding United’s left-back options.

It was clear that United wanted to bring in another addition to challenge Luke Shaw and Williams for the spot but Solskjaer was not prepared to weaken the squad.

In the end, United secured a deal for Porto star Alex Telles on deadline day and Williams has now dropped further down the pecking order.

He has featured just twice for the first team this season and both appearances were in the Carabao Cup.

According to The Athletic, the situation has enticed Southampton to chance their arm once again.

The United boss said: “Brandon has been here, training really well. I am starting to see the Brandon I saw last season, which I have to see more.

“If he keeps on doing what he did last season, he’ll be fine. He’s done really well this week. We have options at full-back, so I am not worried about that.”

United may now change their tune on the 20-year-old ahead of the January transfer window.

Williams put pen to paper on a new long-term deal with United back in August and remains part of Solskjaer’s plans for the future.

The England youth international hailed the influence of his manager on his development, after signing on the dotted line.

“Signing this contract is another really proud moment for myself and my family,” Williams said three months ago.

“Having been at Manchester United since I was seven years old, it’s genuinely a dream come true to be playing in the first team.

“It has taken a huge amount of hard work to reach this point and it has been really special for me to break through into the squad.

“I’ve learned a lot throughout the season from the manager, his coaching staff and my team-mates and I want to repay the trust that they have all shown in me.

“I know that everyone at the club is working really hard every day to achieve success in the coming years and I am really excited to be a part of that.”
