Michel Barnier ‘laughing at UK’ as Boris Johnson to cave to EU Brexit demands within weeks | Politics | News

Former Brexit Party MEP Ann Widdecombe argued Boris Johnson has made the wrong decisions in safeguarding a bright future for Brexit Britain. While speaking to Martin Daubney and Belinda de Lucy of Brexit Unlocked, Ms Widdecombe said Michel Barnier and the EU were now laughing at Britain. She insisted Boris Johnson should have stepped back from the negotiating table as a way to force the EU to adhere to the UK’s Brexit red lines.

Mr Daubney initially asked how Ms Widdecombe felt about the pantomime of Brexit trade talks and the UK going towards the end of the transition period.

Ms Widdecome said: “The whole point of a pantomime is to make people laugh.

“I can’t believe that anybody, no matter what their standard is like, is laughing at the Brexit negotiations except possibly Ursula von der Leyen or Michel Barnier.

“This is because in the end they know, in the end, after all of this they are going to get what they want.

“And if not they are going to get most of what they want to get.”

Ms Widdecombe went on to attack Boris Johnson for his lack of Brexit success as Prime Minister.

She highlighted what changes she would have told him to do to ensure the best outcome for Brexit Britain.

She continued: “I really can’t think when you say pantomime because pantomimes are meant to be a cheerful thing that makes people laugh.

She said: “I think Boris Johnson will betray Brexit and the signs have been there.

“He has missed the numerous deadlines.

“Now if we had actually walked at the end of June, my belief is that we would have had a deal by now.”
