Raul Jimenez injury: Wolves ace ‘conscious’ after nasty David Luiz head clash vs Arsenal | Football | Sport

Sky Sports say Wolves striker Raul Jimenez is awake and “responding to treatment” after being taken to hospital following a nasty clash of heads with Arsenal‘s David Luiz in the first five minutes of their Premier League clash on Sunday.

Jimenez accidentally collided with Luiz while competing for an aerial ball at an early Arsenal corner and was stretchered off after a 10-minute delay at the Emirates.

The Wolves striker was given oxygen on the pitch having appeared to be knocked out cold and was treated by the club’s medical staff and paramedics.

Jimenez did not look to be moving while down receiving treatment in scenes that naturally caused huge concerns and was replaced by Fabio Silva.

Arsenal defender Luiz was able to play on until half-time though his head was heavily bandaged.

But Luiz was replaced by Rob Holding at the break after his cut continued to bleed, seeping through the bandages, during the rest of the first half.

The Gunners insist concussion protocols were followed to allow the 33-year-old Brazilian to play on despite the distressing nature of the clash.

Later in the second half, Sky Sports offered a positive update on Jimenez.

Commentator Bill Leslie said that per sources, Jimenez was “conscious in hospital and is responding to treatment”.

Wolves, via their official Twitter account, have promised to offer updates on the 29-year-old as soon as they get them.

They wrote post-match: “Raul’s head injury is being assessed with a scan at a London hospital. We will continue to update with more information as soon as we have it.”

In Jimenez’s absence, the Midlands club twice took the lead in north London through Pedro Neto and Daniel Podence and went on to win 2-1.

Gabriel Magalhaes drew Arsenal level just three minutes after Neto’s opener before the visitors restored their lead before half-time.

Wolves held on for a big three points in the capital although will more importantly hope that Jimenez is recovering well.

Asked if he spent the rest of the match worried about his team-mate, Wolves captain Conor Coady said: “Massively, massively. We didn’t like it when it happened. I hope David Luiz is OK as well.

“We knew straight away it was a horrible clash of heads. You don’t like to see it. I think both sets of teams went out and played properly. We’re hoping and praying that he’s OK because he’s the one we’re thinking about right now.

“I was at the front just behind him when it happened, I heard it and as he dropped he was on his side. It’s something we never want to see, with one of our team-mates or with anybody in the Premier League.

“We hope and pray he is alright. He’s the one thing that matters. It’s a fantastic result but the one thing that matters is that Raul and David Luiz are OK.

“Raul’s with the right people now. He’s in the hospital and by all accounts he’s awake and he’s breathing. That was the first question we asked when we went in at half-time, ‘How is Raul?’.

“It’s important that we get Raul sorted because it’s a massive collision he’s had there.”

Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo said to Sky Sports: “Jimenez is doing a scan now. He’s conscious. He’s OK inside the gravity of the problem, of course.

“You start hearing code red because it’s serious. It was a bad moment for everybody, both teams, both sets of players.

“We wish everything to be OK. You see the panic in their [medical staff] eyes and you start thinking, ‘How is he?’ We are worried.

“He speaks, he’s aware. He’s doing a scan and now we have to have a proper assessment. But he’s in good hands.

“I’m very proud, especially today because this team showed heart, will and belief. The way they run, they work, it was really good to see.”
